After the Civil War, the Baltimore Gun Club prepares to close, when the President, General Barbicane, has the daring idea of shooting a manned spacecraft to the moon from a giant cannon. Opposed by the Secretary of the club, Captain Nicholls, the two are persuaded to join forces to accompany Michel Ardan a French daredevil. None of them are prepared for what they find.
