Pride and Prejudice (1995)

Mrs Bennet is anxious to marry off one of her five daughters to newcomer Mr Bingley.

The Bennets are expecting a visitor - Mr. Bennet's clergyman cousin, who will inherit the estate in the absence of any direct male heirs.

Elizabeth is shocked to discover that less than three days after Mr. Collins' proposal to her best friend, Charlotte Lucas, his offer has been accepted.

Angry and upset over his rejection, Darcy decides to defend himself. Not every insult she flung at him was fair. He waylays her on her morning walk, hands her a letter and leaves. The contents leave Elizabeth reeling.

Darcy is pleased to introduce Elizabeth to his sister, Georgiana, and to welcome her, and her aunt and uncle, to Pemberley.

There is great excitement in the neighbourhood when Bingley returns to Netherfield, bringing Darcy with him.
