For a decade, Kitty Fogarty has endured chronic fatigue and pain that prevent her from helping run her business and care for her family, eventually driving her overburdened husband, Sean, to leave. Meanwhile, farmer Gráinne McFadden has been plagued by the same symptoms, with no known cause. Then Dr. Rose Casey makes a disturbing discovery when investigating local cases of Hepatitis C infection.

Following the news report, women all around Ireland report for screening, but the testing process is chaotic and insensitive. As Kitty and Gráinne anxiously await their results, they’re relieved to finally know what’s wrong but angry about the years of suffering caused by human error. When journalist Monica O’Callaghan contacts fellow affected women, they soon organize into a political force.

As the Positive Action campaign grows, Monica and Kitty must confront the effect it is having on their families. The group of infected women hire legal representation and present their demands to the government. Gráinne’s condition worsens, and she decides to sue the Blood Transfusion Service Board and the government.

As Gráinne’s health deteriorates, she faces an agonizing moral and personal dilemma. Should she go on with the case and risk losing or dying before it comes to court, or should she accept a financial settlement for the benefit of her family?
