Natsume's Book of Friends (English Subtitled)

Natsume has the ability to see yokai, mysterious beings that are invisible to most people. One day, he accidentally breaks the seal around a lucky cat statue, releasing a yokai named Madara who tells him about his grandmother Reiko's "Book of Friends."

Natsume decides to return the names of the yokai with the help of his new bodyguard, Nyanko-sensei. A small yokai named Tsuyukami comes to get his name back, but the page with his name is stuck to the next page, so Natsume must find the other yokai, too.

A yokai who lives in Yatsuhara comes to Natsume to ask him to capture a human. At the same time, a classmate who recently moved to Yatsuhara named Tanuma starts asking about Natsume. Discovering that another person can see yokai rattles Natsume.

Natsume and his classmates decide to go ghost hunting at the old school building, but Natsume's classmates start disappearing. Natsume is really worried about his classmates, but in the meantime, the class president, Sasada, has a favor to ask of Natsume.

Natsume finds a train ticket among Reiko's belongings. He goes to the station that's written on the ticket, where he meets a hairy yokai named Santo, who is waiting for Reiko. When Natsume gives Santo his name back, he learns more about Reiko's feelings.

Natsume goes to a dam and finds a town that had been submerged in water. Just then, Natsume gets possessed by a yokai and falls unconscious. The yokai tells Natsume it wants to meet a certain person one last time before the town gets submerged again.

Natsume saves a young fox who is getting picked on by some yokai. The Fox Child really starts to like Natsume, and after finding out Natsume has the Book of Friends, it attempts to give its name to Natsume in order to become Natsume's "friend."

Natsume and Nyanko-sensei visit a lake to see the fireflies. There, they meet a man who used to be able to see yokai. While the man talks about how he can no longer see yokai, Natsume sees a yokai snuggling up next to him.

Natsume is greeted by a man named Shuichi Natori, who claims to be his ally. He is also able to see yokai. Natori, a man with the same powers, who has endured the same pain as Natsume, has a strong hatred of yokai and runs a family exorcism business.

A yokai named Akagane makes its way to Natsume, wanting to save Asagi, a harp-playing yokai who has fallen ill. The next day, Natsume gets possessed by Asagi, turning his hair and eyes blue, and he tries to respond to Akagane's wishes.

Nyanko-sensei leaves the Fujiwara household after getting into a fight with Natsume. He takes his anger out on other yokai, and changes into a female high schooler to mess around with Nishimura and Kitamoto.

Natsume is cursed by a yokai who feasts on other yokai, with the "Five Day Mark." He has a mark on his arm, and a black shadow starts following him around. On top of that, Nyanko-sensei is affected by the curse and becomes small.

Natsume's classmate, Tanuma, finds out that Nyanko-sensei is a yokai. When Tanuma asks Natsume why he didn't tell him, Natsume tells him that he wanted to have a normal friend. Afterwards, they decide to go to an autumn festival.
