Newly promoted, Commander Clare Blake vows no cover-ups. At the same time, DCI Hedges conceals evidence of his involvement in the police shooting of an unarmed civilian, Lionel Cripps. Blake looks into the Cripps matter but is soon distracted by the handsome James Lampton. A convicted murderer just out of prison, where Blake put him 12 years ago, Lampton persuades her that he's rehabilitated and charms her into an affair. Then a young nurse is found strangled by her own bra--Lampton's MO. While Blake stews in hot water, Hedges couldn't be happier: if Lampton goes down, so does Blake.
