The Commander

Newly promoted, Commander Clare Blake (Amanda Burton) vows no cover-ups. When a previously convicted killer, James Lampton (Hugh Bonneville) gets released on parole, Blake's judgement is put to the test.

DC BROWNING matches prints from the murder knife to an escaped prisoner, MURRAY DICKSON, and they track him to his ex-wife's flat and arrest him. He admits to being in the murder flat but denies killing the girl. He claims he was told to go there by a fellow prisoner TONY FARMER, but with Farmer in jail at the time, Dickson's going down for the murder. It appears more than ever now that LAMPTON is innocent of both murders.

Newly promoted, Commander Clare Blake vows no cover-ups. At the same time, DCI Hedges conceals evidence of his involvement in the police shooting of an unarmed civilian, Lionel Cripps. Blake looks into the Cripps matter but is soon distracted by the handsome James Lampton. A convicted murderer just out of prison, where Blake put him 12 years ago, Lampton persuades her that he's rehabilitated and charms her into an affair. Then a young nurse is found strangled by her own bra--Lampton's MO. While Blake stews in hot water, Hedges couldn't be happier: if Lampton goes down, so does Blake.
