Flames of Desire

NaYoung wants to do everything possible to stop her son, MinJae, from running off and marrying Baek Inki, including defaming Baek, appealing to pity, kneeling down and even attempting suicide. We then flashback to reveal the shattered history of NaYoung and her troubled times from back in the 1970s.

Young Min explains the environmental engineering he will be doing in the states to Tae Jin. Na Young confesses to quitting school. Na Young and Young Min realize they knew each other when they were children.

After speaking with the president, NaYoung is content with life but comes home to see red collateral tags on nearly everything inside of her home. Meanwhile, JoonGoo continues to suffer the family burdens, which include the death of SangHoon and the collective debts of the rest of the family members.

Young Min pays a visit to an old nemesis and receives a warning never to return. Na Young tells Young Min she is thinking of returning to Seoul. Na Young tries to get Young Min to agree not to have children with her.

The scene starts in 1997 over in New Jersey as NaYoung comes to an agreement that will bring YoungMin back to Seoul as long as he does not have to work for his father when he returns. Later, NaYoung starts to stalk InSook, who has been drinking and staggers around.

Min Jae narrowly misses getting hurt after he falls into the water. Na Young refuses to let Eon Ni introduce her to her adopted daughter. Eun Ni struggles with telling her daughter the truth about her father's past.

MinJae comes up with the adventurous idea of traveling to the countryside using nothing but a bicycle and without any company, but NaYoung quickly shuts down the plans. Meanwhile, the brothers YoungDae and YoungMin meet with the president and the local gang leader YoungJun to discuss the prospective shipyard project.

InKi has a difficult time as she denies the rumors floating around about her, though she does not take any further action as she knows there is nothing that she can do. However, NaYoung continues to press on and says that InKi is low, which drives the woman into anger.

Na Young is encouraged to sell all her shares from her father in law's company. Young Jun becomes romantically interested in Na Young, who does not immediately resist his advances.

JungSook's lies come out, which cause NaYoung to realize that she would never have married YoungMin or sacrificed her own child for survival had the truth come out earlier. The argument turns more serious and ends with NaYoung asking JungSook not to speak with her or see her ever again.

Young Min accuses Na Young of trying to create a rift between himself and his brother and General Nam pays a visit to Young Min's ailing father. Chairman Kim becomes suspicious and wonders what Chairman Kim's true intentions actually are.

YoungMin, unaware of who NaYoung was speaking with, goes out to have tea with his wife as he reveals that she had a miscarriage. This leads YoungMin to believe that NaYoung may have had an affair due to his vasectomy back in the 90s while he was in the States.

The local gang leader tells InKi that she should keep a low profile for the time being as he is unable to produce any movies, interviews or any other kinds of projects. Elsewhere, DukSong tries to regain favor with NaYoung by telling her he really did used to love her.

InKi admits that she has developed feelings for MinJae, but the two realize that they cannot do anything about it due to NaYoung's hatred for the girl. However, Minjae is determined to figure out a solution that will bring the two together without any kind of interference from NaYoung anymore.

Aer Ri asks the president to help pay off her promissory note in exchange for ensuring Young Min will be a part of the government. In Ki and Min Jae become closer and enjoy a concert together.

Despite being in the right place at the right time, MinJae does not hear the truth about the story behind his secret birth. Later, MinJae purposely fuels NaYoung's anger by delivering a bouquet of flowers to InSook in front of the woman; however, NaYoung concedes without any further action—for now.

Na Young denies the accusations brought forth against her by In Sook. Min Jae and Na Young attempt to call a truce with each other. Aer Ri tries to find out why Na Young pretended that she didn't know Duk Song.

In Sook asks for money from Na Young. Young Jun decides he wants to call it quits with Aer Ri, but she begs him not to go for the sake of her reputation. Na Young becomes concerned when Young Min does not come home one night.

Na Young reports to her first day at work over the company, ready to make major changes. The president leaves Min Jae with some valuable business advice. Young Min agrees to loan money to In Sook, much to the horror of Na Young.

Young Jun and Jung Sook have a happy reunion in Ulsan while his Aer Ri desperately tries to make contact with Young Jun. Na Young tries to buy the talent agency owned by President Jang.

Na Young signs In Ki on with her agency. Na Young suspects that Young Dae might have been the one to betray the president rather than Aer Ri as she originally thought.

Na Young discovers that her sister, Jung Sook, might have been having an affair with Young Jun. Young Dae tries to convince his father that he is not the one responsible for the betrayal within the business.

The controversy within the business is made public and Young Dae is taking the blame. A press conference is scheduled to shed light on the matter and make the public believe things are fine within the company.

In Sook wants to get Min Jae back in her care before she passes away. Young Min warns In Sook against reuniting with Min Jae. Na Young warns Young Min against meeting with In Sook.
