In the kingdom of Kippernium, girls are typically raised to be ladies-in-waiting . . . but Jane isn't exactly a typical 12-year-old girl. When Jane rescues Prince Cuthbert from a ferocious dragon--who turns out to be not so ferocious after all--she is granted special permission by King Caradoc to begin training as a knight's apprentice, with the gentle, wisecracking Dragon by her side.
