Alex finds herself in conflict with, Klas Fredén, who constantly interferes in her work. Their conflict causes Martin Beck, now chief, to become involved in his former unit's work, which ultimately invigorates him. Steinar, however, is having a hard time, torn between work and missing his children in Oslo. Alex starts to look at strengthening the group by recruiting a new member.
