Franz Schubert's God-given gift was composing wonderful melodies. More or less unknown when he was alive, he is regarded as the greatest classical songwriter of all time. In all, he wrote more than 600 songs. His best-known works are Ave Maria and Erlkonig. We define what makes a song memorable through several selections from this young genius' body of work.
