The drought had stripped Canaan bare of crops, yet Egypt had vast storehouses of food. Jacob knew that unless he acted soon, his family would starve. He sent ten of his sons to Egypt to buy food. There they found not only food, but the brother they had sold. Joseph's power under Pharaoh allowed him to punish his brothers. Instead he showed mercy and forgiveness. Genesis 41-46.
