In the 1920s, magician Stanley (Colin Firth) enjoys widespread acclaim as a Chinese conjurer, his stage persona. At the behest of his friend, Stanley travels to the Côte d’Azur to expose a medium named Sophie (Emma Stone). But Stanley is left surprised by evidence that Sophie’s gifts may be real.
