Baby Thomas has joyfully turned the house upside down. But the family's happiness is tempered when Molly confronts a health crisis.

William and Mary are desperate for some alone time, but their plans are continually thwarted by college interviews, babies in need and a suspicious death.

After helping at a difficult birth, Mary is rudely propositioned by the new father. Meanwhile, William must fend off the advances of a flirtatious female lawyer.

Mary is furious that she's been kept in the dark about her son Terence's feud with a local gang. When William suggests the boy leave town for his safety, she begins to freeze him out.

Between Terence's leaving and Molly's cancer battle, Mary remains frosty towards William and tempted by a new acquaintance. But when Molly takes a turn for the worse, Mary realizes what she has with William.

Some joyous news inspires William to look for a new home that will allow Terence to return. At the celebration, he and Mary realize that their dreams have come true.
