Deep Insanity THE LOST CHILD

The Randolph Syndrome sweeps the world. An aspiring hero, Shigure, joins the Antarctica Front as a new Sleeper. After fainting from a prank pulled by Larry, he wakes up to Executive Officer Leslie warning him that this job does not dig up dreams but is one with his life at stake. Resistance is essential, and Shigure has what it takes. Thus unfolds the story in the Massive Underground World Asylum.

After a botched mission, Shigure is ridiculed by the platoon for his poor performance. His attempts to reach out to his teammates are met with cryptic or lukewarm responses, frustrating him. He later discovers that Sumire used to be an idol. They share a conversation about their dreams and eventually reach a mutual understanding.

Shigure receives a special mission that will make him a hero, but the nature of the job leaves him conflicted. While out on their day off, Larry and Shigure chase away thugs, and Shigure realises just what he is capable of. Identities exposed, they are asked to collect seeds from the Asylum. Wanting to keep this from the platoon, they sneak in via a different path, and there, Shigure meets Elsie.

Shigure decides to accept the mission, only to learn that his target is Elsie. Impressed by his sword skills, the team wonders about Leslie's past and does some digging. Shigure is lured outside during a meal with Leslie by a call, where he is ambushed by the Exile Cultists led by Nadia. Leslie rescues him, but a new enemy, Hayden, appears before they can escape.

Shigure's reaction to Reika without her prosthetic leg upsets her. Leslie notices the tension between the two and has them undergo intensive cooperative training. The team holds a welcome party to help them get along. While out shopping, the two discover a shared interest. Just then, Nadia attacks again. Reika steps in to save Shigure. Elsewhere, Hayden receives orders to capture Elsie.

Commander Vera is convinced that Elsie has the power to destroy the world and is intent on eliminating her. Her plan receives the organisation's approval. The platoon enters the Asylum to investigate the exiles undercover. Their target, infiltrate Elsie's birthday party. Upon reaching the guarded village, the team splits up. However, their plan was leaked, and Leslie encounters Hayden once again.

The platoon is saddened by the loss of Leslie. Shigure questions the purpose of the mission. Vera gives him three days to think it over. She leads the platoon into the village once more. Hayden and Nadia flee, abandoning the hostages. Shigure tries to stop them but is outmatched and rescued by Vera. Refusing to let Leslie's death be in vain, Shigure decides to go on with the plan.

Hayden and Nadia plot to capture Elsie. Meanwhile, Shigure studies the contents of Leslie's journal. Larry and the others decide to make an album with Leslie's photos, uncovering the secrets of the ex-executive officer's past as they go through them. The team comes under attack by enemy fighter jets. They request Vera for backup, yet, she herself is caught in a bind.

The enemy, Iceman, knows of Vera's ability to repeat time. Having failed twice, Vera is reprimanded by the company and fears for the fate of her teammates while they plan a BBQ party to boost morale. On the roof, Vera reviews the battle. Seeing the fireworks remind him of Leslie's sacrifice, Shigure's resolve is strengthened. Yet, Vera makes a decision to remove Shigure from the platoon.

Shigure meets Leslie in his dream, and the two discuss why Vera is so determined to see the plan through. Shigure is discharged for unauthorised entry into Asylum. He admits his mistake but feels something is off. The team holds him a farewell party. Everyone is unable to accept Shigure's dismissal. Elsewhere, Nadia discovers a difference in the information given by Hayden and the agent.

After leaving the party, Shigure finds the severely wounded agent, who tells him not to let the ring be taken away. Meanwhile, Hayden and Nadia battle Vera. The latter is shaken by Hayden's words. When Shigure shows up, Hayden makes off with the ring. Vera gives Shigure the Aruka ring that is capable of reigning in his powers. He leaves only to return and is met by Vera and Reika's bodies.

Shigure dies in battle. Yet, he awakes on the day of his departure. The Aruka ring in his suitcase reminds him it was not a dream. Having returned to the past, he tries to save the team. When he fails, he is transported back in time once more. The team keeps repeating the events as they learn from each failed attempt, determined to see the mission through.
