When streetwise hood Jerry Bolanti (Cortese) returns to his native New Jersey he becomes a collector for the mob. He quickly rises, rung by rung, up the ladder of the underworld, but makes a lot of enemies on the way. As his inability to play by the rules gets him deeper into trouble, it seems time is running out for the hot-headed gangster.
