Alaska: A Year in the Wild

Winter in Alaska, the animals must battle to survive. Those creatures that face it head-on must show ingenuity and resilience. For the next seven months, they must battle each other and the elements just to stay alive.

With the arrival of spring, comes a glimmer of hope. Animals are hard wired to breed, create the next generation. But spring in Alaska is short. They have less than two months to feed and start a family: all the time avoiding predators.

Summer has finally arrived in Alaska. But this isn't the time for animals to take it easy, the fate of many will depend on salmon. Every year, over three hundred million of them cross the open ocean to spawn in one of Alaska's wild rivers.

Autumn has arrived in Alaska. Days are drawing in and temperatures starting to fall. This is the season when Alaska's wildlife must make the final preparations for winter. But time is running out - autumn this far north is short.
