As Janet prepares for her wedding to Angus Livingstone, she worries about the future of the practice at Arden House. Dr. Neil begins to doubt his medical skills, and Dr. Finlay suspects a presumed natural death might have been a murder.

When 13-year-old Hannah Berry brings her ailing younger sisters to the office, Dr. Finlay decides to inquire into the circumstances of her home life. Dr. Neil tries to obtain a new drug that could help Robbie Hamilton, and Janet has misgivings about her future home with Angus.

A routine visit to a farm on the outskirts of town plunges Dr. Finlay into a long-simmering local mystery. Angus's niece, Rhona, begins training with Janet to take over as housekeeper, and Dr. Neil departs for Glasgow.

A local farmer fears rabies after getting bitten by a dog, and a young boy with measles goes missing. Rhona's mother and aunt come into town for the wedding, and Janet and Angus's big day arrives at last.
