Far from crowded tourist destinations, Creuse has two major assets: peace and space. The region has always been a haven for craftsmen and artists. Novelist George Sand found her first inspiration in the shadow of the Château de Boussac, built on a rocky outcrop. Impressionist painters set up their easels on the magnificent site of Crozant, now known as the Valley of the Painters.
