The Neighbors [English Subtitled]

Music journalist Peter and his pregnant girlfriend Eva swap their miniscule apartment in the city for a spacious and sunny newly-built house in the suburbs. They meet their friendly new neighbors; narcotics detective Steef and sports instructor Rebecca. But before moving in, tragedy strikes and the prematurely born baby dies.

Eva and Peter bury their baby girl and struggle to cope with this terrible loss. They do find comfort with their new neighbors Rebecca and Steef, their door is always open. One night when Peter spots a couple arriving at their house, who behave very intimate, he does wonder what kind of people his new neighbors actually are.

Peter and Eva try to get their life back on track. They enjoy a nice day at the beach with their new friends Rebecca and Steef, but are in for a surprise. The new neighbors casually tell them about their hobby: swinging.

A small-time criminal crashes Rebecca and Steef’s car in the middle of the night, because Steef is more and more entangled in the criminal world. Peter wants to look into adoption, but Eva really wants to have a child of her own, even though their chances of conceiving are slim.

The two couples embark on a weekend away and the sexual tension grows. Steef and Rebecca's libertine attitude towards sex, keeps Peter busy. Steef tells him that everything is possible, but nothing has to be. The men are unaware that the women are already plotting something with a different agenda.

Eva is thrilled to discover she's pregnant and to safeguard her secret she must persuade Peter to sleep with her. For now she can only share her happiness with Rebecca, but Rebecca has other things on her mind. She discovers Steef has been keeping financial facts from her.

Peter has become distrustful and even a bit paranoid; did Eva take a pregnancy test? Is she pregnant? Rebecca follows Steef and discovered he has another child. A child with serious health problems. When she confronts him: Steef confesses that he’s being blackmailed, Rebecca swallows her pride and asks their other neighbors - Peter and Lilly - for a loan.

After secretly testing his fertility, Peter is busy with sorting out Eva's pregnancy. He goes through her things and is stunned to learn that the actual father of Eva's child is to be found across the street. In the meantime, Rebecca makes a strange discovery; she finds Steef’s motorbike gear in Lilly and Jasper’s garage.

Steef has managed to keep all the plates spinning for years, but now everything comes tumbling down. Also his relationship, Rebecca can’t forgive his years of deception. Peter knows Eva lied to him and demands she ends the pregnancy. Rebecca confronts Lilly and Jasper.

Steef is suspended, pending an investigation on his criminal activities. When Eva flees the neighborhood after Peter’s ultimatum, he reaches breaking point. Rebecca and Steef try to intervene and stop terrible things from happening, but the past is rapidly catching up with them.
