Two Thousand Acres of Sky

When the threatened closure of a school on the remote island of Ronansay forces the islanders to advertise for a family a new family, Abbey Wallace seizes the opportunity. A single mother in a run down part of London, she hopes the move will offer her kids a brighter future. The path will not be easy for her though, especially as the ad specifically requests a married couple.

Abby, Kenny and the kids settle in to island life and the B&B opens for business, albeit with a leaky roof and unreliable plumbing. However, when disaster strikes at the local salmon farm and rumors of Abby's dubious past are spread, Abby and Kenny's 'marriage' along with their future on Ronansay is jeopardized.

When Abby finds a chest belonging to the previous owner of the house she employs the help of Helen Kennedy to track down the owner's son, but she soon becomes concerned about Helen's home life, especially as the Kennedy's have a young son. Meanwhile, Kenny is throwing himself into the role of landlord.

A power cut interrupts the island's viewing of the annual football match between Celtic and Glasgow Rangers, and Kenny begins to suspect that the B&B is haunted. Meanwhile, Douglas is worried about about Murdo Campbell who's become quite reclusive. The truth emerges when a fire breaks out at the Campbell's farm.

Two of Abby's closest friends descend on the island for a hen weekend, making Abby realize just how much she has changed since moving there. After an evening spent drinking, their indiscretions jeopardize Abby and Kenny's precarious life on the island and Abby is forced to make a confession to the islanders. Will they be able to forgive her?

The course of true love does not run smoothly in the final episode of the season. Kenny's hope that Abby might learn to love him are dashed, while the arrival of Ida causes a bit of a stir for Malcolm. Meanwhile, Douglas and Mary's plans to marry are hampered by Carolyn. Could there be an island wedding in the offing?
