Jim Chee, a young Navajo police officer in New Mexico investigates a variety of crimes and incidents including the crash of a tourist plane carrying drugs. He is initiated into the rites of his ancestors in order to better penetrate the Navajo spirit. He tracks down Jake who is a seemingly pacifist souvenir dealer. He also eliminates a crooked lawyer who is a drug trafficker.
