White Sands

A year after the murder of German surfer Sebastian on Jutland"s west coast, the case remains unsolved. Impatient with the Danish investigation, German authorities push for further action. When a new lead appears in the form of a mysterious postcard, Danish undercover expert Helene and German homicide detective Thomas are sent to the coastal town of Hvide Sande, posing as a married couple.

Helene and Thomas are living in a trailer, where the close confines cause friction. Trying to get deeper into the local community, they meet the mayor, the local cop and his doctor wife, and the mayor"s brother, the powerful Thorbjørn. They also meet Sebastian"s circle of friends, a group of surfers led by Thorbjørn"s pretty and rebellious daughter, Michelle, who seems to have secrets of her own.

Life as a married couple is put to the test when Helene and Thomas are invited to dinner at Peter and Susanne"s house. Will the two cops seem like a real couple? When Thomas tries to approach the enigmatic Michelle, he finds himself in trouble. Michelle is suspicious, and Thomas gets tangled up in a lie—and ends up taking part in an illegal car race. Meanwhile, they uncover new leads in the case.

Thomas and Helene move into a small house, where they hang their case notes on the garage wall—including about Ulrik"s death, as the autopsy reveals he was murdered. Helene gets a job at the nursing home and meets an old man called "the Nighthawk." After learning that Sebastian visited the town archive shortly before his death, Thomas gains access to its security footage and makes a big discovery.

Things have gone off the rails: Thomas has returned to Germany, Helene is on her own in Hvide Sande, and Ellen is angry. A new problem has also arisen: Jimmy, a dangerous criminal that Helene helped put behind bars, has escaped, and the police fear he"ll be coming for Helene. At the nursing home, she tries to learn more about the Nighthawk, while back in Germany, Thomas digs into Sebastian"s past.

Helene is saved at the last moment by Thomas, who has returned from Germany. She"s happy to see him and interested in his news about Sebastian working on a book about his deceased father"s life. After learning that a Luger killed Ulrik, Thomas goes hunting in the World War II memorabilia circles, while Helene tries to get more information from old Laurits, "the Nighthawk," at the nursing home.

Thomas now knows that the surfers are diving for wrecked ships, and when he stops by, he finds the book that Sebastian stole from the archive. The book leads them to an old lady, Dagmar—who, it turns out, wrote the postcard. While Thomas finds the ship Kassandra at the bottom of the sea, Dagmar tells Helene that Sebastian"s father was on board the vessel when it shipwrecked 60 years earlier.

Helene saves Thomas from the fire, and afterwards, they try to piece together the puzzle. When Helene overhears a phone call with the killer, she and Thomas lie in wait at the lighthouse. But unmasking the murderer turns out to be only the tip of the iceberg for a crime rooted in deep love, raging jealousy, and greed. With the case closed, how will the duo deal with the end of their "marriage"?
