This provocative, thrilling drama finds four friends caught in a storm of excitement and self-discovery, secrecy and betrayal as they are drawn into the world of illicit and complex relationships. 30-something friends Katie, Trudi, Siobhan and Jessica met at university, but their lives have taken very different turns. Katie, a doctor, has been having a relationship with one of her patients; Trudi is grieving a husband lost in 9/11; bubbly bed-hopper Jessica remains ecstatically single, while lawyer Siobhan seems happily married.

All the girls find themselves in tricky situations as they figure out how to deal with the new man (or woman) in their lives. Sam desperate to find his father's mistress is unaware that it was Katie and looks to her for help. As Katie spends more time getting to know Sam and less worrying about her secret, it seems there may be more to the two than a casual friendship. Trudi finds herself feeling like she is back in high school, when she and Richard's first date turns out painfully awkward. Siobhan feels guilty about sleeping with Dominic, but when Hari viciously reacts to being infertile, she finds herself driven back to her co-worker. The feelings between Jessica and Alex have gone from cold to hot and their flirtatious friendship is beginning to escalate, right before the wedding.

Drama and lust escalate as the girls find themselves giving into temptation. Katie tries to fight for her feelings for Sam, but is unable to get him off her mind, she finally opens up to his advances. Siobhan fights with her attraction to Dominic and commitment to Hari, but when she finds out she is pregnant all of her problems change. Trudi feels inadequate when it comes to sex, and tells Richard she just isn't ready. After working on her confidence and her figure, Trudi feels ready and seduces him over lunch. But she soon finds that a new problem is waiting for her, when a woman named Sally comes to her house claiming to be Paul's lover. Jessica and Alex make love, but Jessica ignores Alex's offers to cancel the wedding. It is not until the ceremony that Jessica realizes that she might have made a mistake in saying no.

As secrets and surprises start building up, the girls start to crack under the pressure. Trudi is upset and confused by Sally's claim that she was Paul's lover. The girls comfort Trudi telling her that there can be no truth in what Sally says. As Sally begins to provide evidence of her relationship with Paul, the idea of an affair gets harder to ignore. The other girls are all dealing with doubt and denial as well. Jessica attempts to shake off her feelings for Alex with filtrations, hook-ups, and even a threesome, but nothing works. Could she be in love? Siobahn finds that Dominic isn't the fathering type, leaving her to wonder how Hari will react to her miraculous pregnancy. Katie and Sam seem to be going strong, but how will he react when he finds out about Katie's affair with his father?

The secret is out, in this episode all the girls find themselves confronting the reality of what they were trying to hide. Sam, disgusted by Katie's affair, doesn't contact her until he arrives under her window one night, days after her confession. Sam wants to know more about his father's death, leading Katie to admit to helping him through euthanasia. This confession leads Sam and his mother Gemma to get Katie temporarily suspended from work, but Sam still can't fight his feelings for her. Jessica admits her love to Alex and agrees to secretly share her with Lisa. Siobahn, cracking from the pressure of passing off her pregnancy as Hari's, tells her husband about her affair with Dominic. Trudi finds herself not only believing Sally, but bonding with her as well, and decides to give Sally part of the bereavement money. What secret will Trudi uncover when she goes to drop off the check?

The girls are finding out how much the truth hurts, facing up to series of shocking realities. Now that Katie's secret is out about her affair with John and aiding in his death, Gemma, John's wife is determined to take her to court. Sam and Katie's relationship is up in the air as both try to figure out how Katie's past affects their future. Meanwhile, Siobhan has a decision of her own; Hari sees a termination of the pregnancy as the only way to move on, but will Siobhan follow through to earn her husband's forgiveness? Jessica is struggling with the pains that go with being in love, for the first time ever she is seeking commitment. Alex, on the other hand, isn't keen on leaving her wife to start a full time relationship with Jessica. Trudi who has been in denial about her husband Paul's death decides to turn him in for his betrayal to their family when she finds him alive. With Paul finally out of the way where does Richard fit in to Trudi's new life?
