The Treehouse Stories

There's an intruder in the hut: Oscar, a strange character who knows all the bird names and has come to watch them from what he thinks is a new observation post! But as it turns out, he and the children form a wonderful relationship, so much so that Oscar becomes an official hut member.

Tiago is caught cheating in the Post-It game: "Cheat! Cheat!"… His new nickname is sticking to him like a... sticker! But when they read the book, the kids realize that a sticker is easier to put on than it is to take off!

In an effort to grab his friends' attention, Tiago pretends to fall backwards and hurt himself very badly! Playing along, Antoine and Lilas act as doctors and examine the "patient." Their diagnosis?: Tiago is suffering from a terrible lack of attention, just like our dear Emil.

Antoine is stressing about being the new kid in school: he's afraid of being different and not being able to make any friends, and that he'll wind up all alone. Esteban advises him to work out, to become a a muscle-bound student worthy of respect, but Lisette has a whole different approach to boosting Antoine's bravery: she decides to read him the story of the cold penguin.

When she comes back from vacation, Lisette is stricken with a strange condition: nothing makes her laugh, life isn't fun anymore. She's feeling down, melancholic, and doesn't know why. Tilly comforts her big sister by reading the book to her so that they can maybe work out where her grief is coming from.

It's nighttime and Oscar and Lisette are up at the window with their eyes peeled. They cry out with emotion and joy when a string of shooting stars streaks by! But they're unaware that they're blocking Tilly's view and jogging her. Just like the bird in the book, Tilly feels left out.

Lisette is getting ready for her drama lesson and asks Tiago if he can give her her cue. But Tiago objects: No way! Reading lines for him is a nightmare! He didn't come to the hut to be made to do schoolwork! Lisette is amused by his reaction and pulls out the book. Tiago feels such a connection with the character that he finally starts reading of his own accord.

Tiago's friends are in raptures over a little hamster they're looking after during their vacation. But he's pouting! He thinks the hamster's super lame; besides, no animal could ever come close to his beloved Carabas! Just like Poppy, Tiago is refusing to get over the animal he lost.

Basil is busy building a dream-catcher. But he keeps getting distracted by his attention-seeking little cousin, Tilly! Relationships between older and younger family members aren't always easy, as illustrated by the magic story of Gina the Gorgon.

Tiago turns up at the hut with a super-realistic self-portrait. And before he gets a chance to explain, everyone's congratulating him on his awesome drawing skills! Tongue-tied and unable to admit that he didn't draw it, Tiago digs himself deeper and deeper into his own lie.

Tiago and Esteban ask Antoine to decide which one of them he likes best but Antoine refuses to pick: some things just can't be compared or even measured.

Tiago, Lisette and Lilas are building houses of cards. Well, especially Lisette and Lilas: Tiago, on the other hand, is unable to get two cards to stand up and loses his nerve. In the end, he gets so mad he crashes his fist down on the table, bringing his friends' houses tumbling down! Lisette points out that he's acting a lot like the "Evil Little Prince."

Yael and Esteban accidentally jostle Tilly while they're playing war. This reminds her of Flon Flon and Musette. So she shares the book with her friends, to show them that war isn't always fun!

Tilly and Lilas are having so much fun spending an afternoon of "dance and magic" while they have the hut all to themselves! Dressed up as ballerinas, they start reading the very poetic story of Swan Lake when Esteban turns up. He feels out of place in this "girly" set-up and is just about to leave when the tale starts to work its magic on all of them.

Basil has made a hairband for Lilas and is about to give it to her when Tiago instills doubt in him: wouldn't it have been better to "buy a gift" for her? But thanks to Little Paul, he understands that it's not so much the gift you give that's important, it's the actual act of giving.

Esteban is in the doldrums: he's been waiting since forever for his baby brother to arrive and now his baby brother is, in fact, a sister! Just like the boy in the book, he feels disappointed, frustrated and angry. But thanks to Lisette and Tilly, Esteban comes to realize that by being an awesome big brother, he'll wind up with an awesome little sister!

Yael and Oscar are making "treasure boxes" to stow the precious little objects they've found during their walks - feathers, flowers, stones and the like. But Esteban is bored! He can't see "precious stones" at all!: all he sees is a pile of boring old rocks. But The Big Nothing Day awakens within his heart a sense of poetry and a love for Nature.

Lilas really wants to play with Esteban and Antoine but they're in the middle of a chess match. Waxing crafty, she tickles them and gets her way! Now they have no choice but to bow to her whims: she wants them to read her a funny book! Whether it be in the hut or in The Bison, the little ones always achieve their goals: a little bit of cunning can go a long way!

Disguised as a superheroine, Yael refuses to help Lilas who is struggling to try and move a small piece of furniture. Her explanation?: "Superheroes don't deal with everyday tasks!" So Lilas decides to read her Polarman - a perfect counterexample to Yael's argument!

Yael is trying to teach Oscar and Esteban some dance moves. But she can't bear it any longer: they're just a couple of clumsy klutzes! However, thanks to the book, Esteban manages to make her see that not being perfect is not necessarily a flaw.

Esteban is bored of life in the hut: he's played all the games, read all the books, done this, done that, done EVERYTHING! He's just like the king in the book: disabused! But just like said monarch, Esteban recovers his joie de vivre and ability to laugh, thanks to his friends and this very funny story!

Antoine and Oscar are playing masterchefs and are making a gorgeous pasta salad. But, having forgotten all the ingredients he was supposed to bring, Oscar has replaced them with various random items: a weird potato thing, a bunch of blueberries and a pile of blue spaghetti! Methodical by nature, Antoine is irked by so much sloppiness and throws the towel in!

The kids are preparing a surprise birthday party for Lisette. But Lilas accidentally makes a big paint splat in the middle of the banner. Oscar and Yael try to reassure her but only make matters worse, and now, Lilas is feeling more ashamed than ever! But after reading The Worst Birthday of my Life, she realizes that shame only blows things up out of proportion.
