Ranjit overhears his wife Renu talking to her brother about their marriage anniversary. Ranjit pretends to forget the special day while the other two try to discreetly remind him of the same. After Ranjit fails to remember the anniversary and leaves for office, Renu approaches a lawyer to file for divorce.

A guest is scheduled to visit the Verma family and Renu wants to bring home the new sofa-bed before his arrival. The dealer, however, ends up delivering the wrong sofa to their house. The real owners are their Bengali neighbours, who accuse the Vermas of stealing their furniture. How will the confusion be sorted?

A South Indian neighbour of the Verma family borrows their house for one evening to discuss his daughter Kavita's marriage with Shrikant and his orthodox parents. Renu Verma decks up her place in a traditional fashion. But trouble ensues when Renu's brother Raja is forced to pose as a family pandit and Renu is mistaken as the bride.

Without seeing each other, Shrikant and Kavita refuse to get into an arranged marriage, citing the reason that they're in love with someone else. They confide their feelings with Ranjit who supports their decision but gets blamed for misleading the youngsters. Meanwhile, Shrikant's brother and Kavita's sister enter the picture to complicate matters.

Renu gets annoyed when Ranjit brags about the way he flirts with salesgirls in his office. She takes up a job as a saleswoman in her bank, turns up at Ranjit's office and starts flirting with his colleague, Vinod. But Ranjit's boss decides not to give further orders to salesgirls to cut the company losses. Renu then dresses up as a salesman to carry out her mission.

Sheila, Renu's foreign-returned friend, makes her realise that her husband and brother are overly dependent on her. She has to do all the household chores along with her job, with little help from them. Renu decides not to slave for the men. Meanwhile, Ranjit places a bet with his Sindhi friend Keshwani that he'll prove Renu is in his control.

In an attempt to see who controls his wife and dominates the house better, Keshwani and Ranjit place a bet. Ranjit invites Keshwani for dinner. But the women decide to unite and teach their husbands a lesson for treating them poorly. Where will this battle between sexes end?

Ranjit is blackmailed by two thieves who want to extricate money from him. To nab the crooks the next time they visit him, he gets Raja to appear as a police constable. Meanwhile, wanting to help her husband, Renu also gets Bhattacharya to disguise as an inspector, leading to some hilarious confrontations.

A masked thief, who's fond of gulabjamum, enters the Verma house at night and extricates their valuables by threatening to kill Raja. In the morning, Raja, Renu and Ranjit approach the police who suggest that Raja come forward and claim to recognise the thief, so that he arrives again to get rid of Raja and the authorities can nab him.

A plainclothed policeman arrives at the Verma's to train them on how to handle the situation if they're faced with the thief. But because of his fondness for gulabjamun, the Vermas think he's the thief. They drug him to sleep, but then the real thief dressed as a policeman arrives at their house.

Ranjit gets a routine medical check-up done, but his report is mixed up with someone else's. The doctor breaks the bad news to him that he has cancer and only has five days to live. A spoof on Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Anand', watch how the dramatically depressed doctor and forcefully optimistic Ranjit try to sail over the tough times.

Renu's neighbour, Kavita is pregnant and she frequently visits Renu to discuss the same. Ranjit overhears their conversation and thinks Renu is pregnant. He begins to take extra care of her. The confusion prolongs when Ranjit talks about 'the newcomer' and Renu thinks he is referring to the new puppy she wants to get.

The confusion continues when Kavita and Renu go to a lady doctor and Ranjit obssessively thinks about the baby's future and even talks in his sleep due to the stress. Renu thinks he's lost his mind and decides to approach a psychiatrist to fix him.

To get a promotion in their jobs, Ranjit and Renu invite their respective bosses for dinner, but unfortunately, on the same day. Renu hires two servants who are unable to reach on time and Raja and Bhattacharya temporarily assume their roles. But madness ensues when the bosses are mistaken for real servants.

Bhattacharya's sister-in-law, Sharmila arrives in Mumbai after she breaks up with her Bengali boyfriend, Prashant. Raja and Sharmila meet and fall in love with each other. But Prashant pleads Raja to help him sort out their misunderstandings because he still loves Sharmila. Will Raja sacrifice his love and unite the old lovers?

Raja is depressed about being incompetent and useless in life. A department store owner offers him a job of a salesman. Raja is disinterested in working and sends back customers without selling them anything, that is, until he's offered a commission for each sale. Watch how Raja's hidden talent surfaces.

Ranjit's briefcase containing contract papers gets accidentally exchanged with that of a smuggler's, containing diamonds worth Rs. 2 millions. The smugglers reach Ranjit's house to retrieve it. Meanwhile, Raja hires a few actors to play the role of smugglers in his upcoming stage drama and mistakes the real ones for the actors, giving rise to a comedy of errors.

Ranjit's eldest and youngest uncles are at odds with each other due to some property issues. They refuse to share the same space or look at each other in the eye. But they're forced to face each other and confront their issues when they end up visiting Ranjit on the same day.

Renu and Ranjit Verma pack up a present they'd received from Mrs. Talwar and gift it to another friend, a retired Colonel. Colonelsaab gets attached to the present, which is a precious brass visage from Zambia. But then Mrs. Talwar demands it back and the Verma family goes to great lengths to retrieve it from the Colonel.

Ranjit Verma is suddenly inspired to speak the truth after he meets guru Gokulji. He digs up the lies that he'd spoken in the past and goes on a spree to reveal them, causing havoc in the lives of the people associated with the lies. His truths also lead to marital quarrels among his neighbours, the Bhattacharyas.

Raja dates two girls, Anju and Manju, at the same time. Renu and Ranjit disapprove of his actions and warn the girls' fathers about it. Trouble comes knocking when both the girls elope and arrive at Raja's house to marry him. The fathers then come looking for the girls, paving way to hilarious confusion.

Ranjit and Renu get into a heated argument while trying to resolve a fight between a married couple who happen to be their friends. Raja gets bothered by this and calls Ranjit's father and Renu's mother, asking them to intervene. Will the elders be able to resolve it?

Renu wants a cooking range to expedite her work. She orders everyone to start becoming frugal with their finances, give up on their day-to-day comforts and save money. Unfortunately, their bills pile up too, until they are forced to pay them after being admonished by Ranjit's father for being irresponsible. Will Renu ever get her cooking range?

Ranjit is out of station and forgets to deposit his policy premium. Renu has no cash with her. So to pay for the premium, Raja and Renu accommodate a paying guest in the house. But their aunt and her daughter, Rashmi arrive from Meerut to stay with them on account of Rashmi's employment, giving rise to a tiff between the guests.
