Sam Francis began his career from a hospital bed in 1945. Searching within himself for answers, Francis connected with color on an intimate level and often drew inspiration from the outré scenes in his dreams, encouraging his viewers to further explore their own subconscious. His paintings evoke both the physicality and spirituality of the places he loved.
