Early 1960s, Italy. At the age of twelve, Accio enters a seminary with dreams of becoming a saint, but he joins the Fascist party before making a 180-degree change to direct the Communist-led students' marches. As Accio careens from one heart-felt extreme to another during a turbulent decade, his good-looking brother Manrico eases through life adored by women and favored by the brothers' family.
