The team carried out a massive group walk-around because they were too scared to be alone at first, which produced activity that shocked them all.

In operation as a maximum-security prison up until 1995, the West Virginia Penitentiary has a gruesome past and supposedly some of its most violent inmates have hung around to terrorize anyone who dares enter their world. The penitentiary is one of the scariest locations ever seen on "Most Haunted."

The name "Sleepy Hollow" is engraved in popular culture and is synonymous with one of the most famous ghost stories in the world, that of the Headless Horseman. The "Most Haunted" team heads down to the cemetery and sets up camp at the location of the infamous wooden bridge; it is said that one can hear the hooves of the famous horseman galloping across it in the dead of night.

One of the most unusual locations seen on "Most Haunted," the New London Ledge Lighthouse in Connecticut sets the investigation team adrift as it isolates them for an entire night of investigation. Will they witness the lighthouse's infamous ghost, Ernie?

Originally built to protect the port of Philadelphia and Wilmington from invasion, then home to some 13,000 prisoners, Fort Delaware is a huge and imposing location. With so many different places over such a large area, the team has their work cut out, investigating the fort before sunrise.

Perched on the southernmost tip of New Jersey, the Southern Mansion dates back to 1863. Although now a high-class bed and breakfast, the Southern Mansion still has a few residents from its past hanging around to surprise some unsuspecting guests. The team explores several bedrooms as well as the basement. Unexplained noises, bangs and whispers keep the crew gripped in fear throughout the night.

8. Conference House
The Conference House, also known as Billop House, is a colonial mansion on Staten Island, New York, and the site of a peace conference held to stop the Revolutionary War. The team holds a large séance in the kitchen basement as noises, moans and taps come from all over the house.
