When Constantine legalized and then patronized Christianity, he demanded that the Church get its doctrinal, scriptural, and organizational houses in order - as befitting a partner in the imperial government. The Church began to utilize imperial symbols and ceremonies in its artistic productions of the fifth and sixth centuries.
