Sun Storm

On 13th March, 1989, a sun storm wreaked havoc in Canada, causing widespread power cuts across Quebec, with many people left in darkness for days. A solar storm is a disturbance on the Sun, which can emanate outward across the heliosphere, affecting the entire Solar System. What are these storms caused by? Can we predict them? Can we do anything to minimize the effect they have on our planet?
