When he arrives in Paris, Chouchou, a North African refugee, is taken in by Father Léon, who finds him a job with the psychoanalyst Nicole Milovavovich. One night, he meets Vanessa, a romantic singer in a cabaret. Chouchou ends up becoming a transvestite waiter in that same cabaret and meets Stanislas, a frequent guest.
