Murder Call

Robin Cochrane is a celebrity sportsman loved by the public and poisoned by one of his family. Tessa and Steve uncover the private side of Robin Cochrane which is far removed from his public persona. Tessa realises something happened on the night Robin was murdered, something which made one of the household lose all sense of logic.

A woman in white runs screaming through a graveyard. The woman is Lucy Balzan, her husband is dead at the bottom of the stairs, allegedly pushed after walking in on thieves robbing the house of its heirlooms. The family members come under suspicion when the robbery looks like an inside job.

A former star footballer is found dead in the lift of a publicity building owned by Anita Black. Anita is successful, attractive and now missing. Tessa and Steve ruffle the feathers of a prominent politician among others while trying to locate Anita. Nothing is adding up, until Tessa realises the secret in Anita's past. The revelation will impact on many lives.

Steve and Tessa investigate the death of a woman found in an area notorious for prostitutes. When they learn the woman was a pregnant nun and not a prostitute, their investigation takes a new turn.

Trevor Parkin is found dead in the zoo, stabbed in the chest whilst wearing a gorilla suit. Mrs Parkin is more interested in the neighbourhood gossip, than her husband's murder. Tessa and Steve meet the Zoo PR man and his son, Sally, the zoo assistant, a school teacher on an excursion to the zoo and a petty thief.

A mummified body is found in an empty house. It is identified as Karen Diskin, who was missing presumed murdered two years ago. Thorne was the investigating officer at the time and arrested Karen's husband, Daniel, for the murder. Thome assigns Tessa and Steve to tie up the loose ends.

Abel Jago sits dead in an armchair before his valuable toy railway, on which the train of cars make their rounds. The railway engineer left a short farewell letter to his wife Ellie before committing suicide. Tessa however soon has doubts about Jagos suicide and when the autopsy results come in, it is revealed he was poisoned with cyanide.

Tessa suspects an apparent suicide is really an elaborate scam designed to cover a woman's disappearance.

The gruesome find of a severed arm wrapped in plastic draws Tessa and Steve into a case that takes them through the dark storm water tunnels of the city and sends them both home with nightmares. The discovery of the disembodied head does not help them to identify the victim, it is the final discovery of the limbless torso that provides the charmed clue.
