After neighbourhood thug Heinz (John Turturro) is released from prison after serving time for the attempted rape of Linda (Jodie Foster), he attempts to rekindle a disturbed relationship with her. Meanwhile, Harry (Tim Robbins), who was able to protect Linda when Heinz last attacked her, is now a pacifist and avid supporter of the civil rights campaign led by Martin Luther King Jr.
