Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

Tony visits Andalucia during Semana Santa (Holy Week, just before Easter), which is a time filled with great pageantry and excitement. Tony's longtime DP, Zach Zamboni, currently lives in Granada with his fiancée, Fuen Sanchez, and has been imploring Tony to come to visit for years.

Today, New Mexico has the largest Hispanic population per capita in the US. There is no better way to see the mash-up of cultures that make up this uniquely American State than by what the people here are eating. A combination of Spanish, Mediterranean, Mexican, Pueblo, and even Chuck-Wagon influences. But New Mexico is also a land of drugs, guns, monster trucks, aliens and more guns.

Life in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza are hard to sum up in one episode. The intense relationship between these places is hard to understand, but Tony attempts to delve into the region through the food. He spends time in all three areas, meeting chefs, writers, and more to find out what impact the current situation has on the food culture in these States.

Copenhagen is home to Rene Redzepi and his brainchild NOMA, now regarded as the world's best restaurant. But Denmark isn't the first place you'd guess for a restaurant of this caliber to be located. Danes who thought big were often cut down by their peers because of the Law of Jante, which discourages attention-seeking.

Sicily isn't about fast food or fast life. It's about savoring family, life, and food. It's about making the most of what you have. Tony goes in search of foods and their producers, and eats his way around the island that long-legged Italy kicked into the Mediterranean Sea. He stays in the Villa Monaci, on the outskirts of Catania, to add to the sleepy village feel.

Detroit holds a unique place in American history, as few cities have seen such a dramatic rise and fall. Tony explores the past, present, and future of the Motor City. He steps into the lives of Detroiters and sees the glory days of the past, the current state of the city in its widespread urban decay, and the citizens that are rebuilding their communities.

Tokyo showcases the strict norms of Japan: the low birthrate, the dedication, and the life of a salaryman. That is just one side of the story, however, as Japan is a paradox. A competitive and rigid culture gives way to some unique subcultures. Tony has been to Tokyo countless times, but on this trip, he is in search of the city's dark, extreme, and bizarrely fetishistic underside.

Once, Johannesburg was the most dangerous city in the world, but now it's barely in the top 50, pushed out by countries with bigger problems. The end of the apartheid has lead to vast changes in the city. Tony visits the Johannesburg suburb of Hillbrow, which is still a very dangerous place. He spends a day in the life of a taxi driver and discovers the culture and food of nowadays.
