White House Farm

On August 7, 1985, the Chelmsford police receive a distressed call from farmer Jeremy Bamber. When they arrive at White House Farm, they find Jeremy"s sister, mother, father, and nephews murdered. Grief consumes the surviving family members, and it appears to be an open-and-shut case to lead investigating officer DI Thomas "Taff" Jones. But DS Stan Jones has a hunch that all is not as it seems.

Another statement from the family gives Stan a clearer lead into a possible psychological motive for Sheila, but questions remain. The police release details of the incident to the press and declare that they are officially treating the case as murder-suicide. But the postmortem acknowledges the unexplained elements, and a frustrated Stan decides to take matters into his own hands.

After a vital discovery at White House Farm, Stan and Mick feel closer to shoring up their theories, but that"s shattered by the family"s problematic handling of a piece of evidence. The arrival of a friend from New Zealand shows Jeremy in a different light, and Ann grows ever warier of her cousin. Stan and Mick must work quickly to get forensic analysis done before the bodies are cremated.

As the date of the funerals approaches, the family ready themselves to say goodbye. Jeremy and Brett seem closer than ever, but Julie feels cast aside and is increasingly aware of the different faces Jeremy puts on in public and in private. Meanwhile, without the answers he needs, Stan is forced to take the discrepancies in the case to the top levels of the police, unsure if he will succeed.

A vital witness"s testimony answers some of Stan and Mick"s questions, and they are able to make the first arrests of the case and continue their questioning. But it becomes apparent that the new testimony may not be motivated by a guilty conscience and a desire for justice. The family, rocked at the new revelations, attempt to make sense of what they thought they knew.

As all evidence and information is gathered, scrutinized, and interrogated, a very publicized and polarized trial begins, calling those involved in the case to testify before the jury and packed gallery. Conflicting accounts and passionate testimonies are aired to the court, and the jury make their final verdict of what really happened that night at White House Farm.
