Ex-DCI Jackie Malton speaks to investigators and witnesses from the 1969 kidnap of Muriel McKay, hoping to shed new light on the mystery. Muriel was the wife of Rupert Murdoch's top executive, and her kidnappers mistook her for the media tycoon's wife. Even though the body was never found, the brothers were convicted of murder.

Hindley with her partner Ian Brady, murdered 5 children around Manchester between 1963 and 1965 and became know as the Moors Murderers. Jackie revisits the tragic deaths of their 5 child victims, explores the nature of the pair's relationship, and re-examines the truth behind Hindley's characterisation in the press as the most evil woman in Britain.

Jackie turns her attention to Fred and Rose West, an English couple who committed at least 12 murders between 1967 and 1987. She returns to Cromwell Street, the house where police discovered 9 sets of remains, including their daughter, back in 1993. Jackie speaks to the police involved in the arrest and considers how the Wests' crimes managed to go unnoticed for so many years.

Jackie Malton takes to the streets of Newport to cast her forensic eye over the 1988 murder of Danny Denbury. In January 1988, Denbury was murdered in his home on Pillmawr Road by ex-soldier Christopher McGovern. McGovern admitted that he had killed Denbury after he'd propositioned him for sex. Denbury was found tied to a radiator, stabbed and battered to death.

Jackie is back in Newport, digging out the case file on a grisly murder from 1992. Sian Collier was the manager of a betting shop who was brutally murdered as she counted the day's takings. The killer was Anthony Clapham, a debt ridden gambling addict. He repeatedly stabbed her then strangled her with a phone cord, before stealing 400 euros. He fled to Dorset, but was soon caught by police.

Jackie Malton heads to the Midlands to retrace the steps that led police to arrest Alun Kyte - The Midlands Ripper. Kyte claimed his first victim, Samo Paull, in 1993. Her body was found in a ditch by a road near Leicestershire. In 1994, Kyte murdered Tracey Turner, dumping her corpse on a grass verge about 6 miles from where Ms Paull had been found. Kyte was arrested and jailed for life.
