This remarkable film presents a critique of macho mexican culture. "La Manuela" played by Roberto Cobo, doesn't want to be a man because she doesn't want to be a "bruto". Pancho (his brother in law) and Octavio, represent the typical stereotype of a mexican man: obsessed with appearing "manly", treat women like objects, violent, and controlling.
