Five Days

When a train is delayed by an apparent suicide, off-duty policewoman Laurie Franklin is at the scene and called upon to help. Later, when she learns that a baby was abandoned at a nearby hospital that same day, she believes the two cases may be connected.

Now leading the investigation, DI Mal Craig disregards Laurie’s hunch that the suicide and the abandonment are linked. He focuses on trying to identify the victim, nicknamed “Lola” because-instead of the woman the train driver claimed-he was actually a young Middle Eastern man. Meanwhile, foster father Nick is growing attached to baby Michael.

Looking for new leads, Laurie and Mal stage a reconstruction of Day One’s events. Train conductor Danny and his wife, Nusrat, try not to get their hopes up about adopting Michael, especially when Nusrat is plunged into family troubles. Mal experiences his own personal crisis and turns to Laurie for comfort.

Two breakthroughs begin to throw light on the identities of Lola and Michael’s mother when a surprising person turns up and fingerprint matches point to an arrested girl. Meanwhile, Pat reunites with prostitute Soraya and learns of her own connection to the case, and Mal and Laurie’s romantic evening goes horribly wrong.

Nick dreads turning over Michael to Farid, and his skepticism about the situation proves to be well-founded. Nusrat endures social ostracization when her brother is arrested, and Pat discovers the truth about what happened on the bridge on Day One.
