Cranky is always cranky as he rarely sleeps. When Salty starts telling a tale, an irritated Cranky drops pipes on the track. The engines are stuck and Cranky has to listen to Salty's stories all night. When Harvey arrives to clear the tracks, Cranky was so pleased he forgot to be cranky. When Salty is brought to work at the quarry, his secret of handling the trucks makes Bill & Ben jealous.

After Harvey the crane engine arrives on Sodor, the other engines make fun of him for looking different. When Percy has an accident, it's Harvey to the rescue and the others see how useful he can be! Harold sometimes has to fly the mail. Percy gets upset because delivering the mail is his favorite job. When Harold takes over for Percy, there's trouble...and it's a bad day for Harold!

When Thomas gets stranded on a branch line, his driver discovers a forgotten old steam lorry in a shed. With a little work, Elizabeth is up and running. And Sir Topham Hatt is reunited with an old friend. Cyril the fogman is a friend to all the engines. He warns them when there's fog ahead. But when Sir Topham Hatt replaces Cyril with a foghorn, there's trouble on the tracks!

Jack is excited to work at the quarry. He offers to help Oliver, Byron, Kelly, and Isobella, but no one wants it. Overeager Jack scoops up rocks, despite it being Oliver's job. Ignoring an order to stop, Jack tips over. Disappointed, Jack is determined to learn from his mistake. When Ned damages the train bridge, Jack jumps in and holds it up, so Thomas can cross safely. A good friend indeed.

Thomas hates wearing his snowplow, but loves his special - a beautiful Christmas tree. Chugging along the tracks, Thomas does not see a giant rock buried in the snow. After his snowplow breaks, Thomas is determined to deliver the tree. When there's a mishap on the rails, there's twin trouble. Donald and Douglas refuse to speak to each other. But when one crashes, the other races to the rescue!

Diesel is brought in to help after Henry breaks down. As Diesel shows off, the trucks decide to cause trouble...and Diesel quickly learns that he is not the world's strongest engine. On Halloween, Percy is running scared from Edward's ghost stories. Knowing this, Thomas teases him. But when Thomas is left alone to finish the job at night, it's Thomas who's the scaredy engine.

Percy is scared of the spooky abandoned mine. Stopping at a signal by the mine, Percy sees a chimney sink into the ground. Donald and Douglas tell him it's naughty gnomes. But when another building sinks into the ground, Percy runs scared. Percy's problems continue when he's the middle engine of a train, turning him upside down at the coaling plant.

Summer holidays are a busy time for the engines. Thomas and James are worried that the hot air balloon will take passengers away. When the balloon starts to drift down towards James, he learns that his worries are full of hot air. Winter days on Sodor can be freezing. Thomas teases James and Percy about Jack Frost. When snow arrives covering Percy, frightened James thinks he's seen Jack Frost.

Gordon loves being the express. While moving freight cars, Salty tells him not to get too big for his buffers and slow down. When Gordon races down the wrong track, not heeding Salty's advice, he takes a tumble. Percy often has the dirtiest jobs. With the water shortage, he cannot have a washdown. Taking sugar to chocolate factory, Percy skids on oily rails and a makes a chocolate crunch.

When Ben's buffers are damaged, he is sent to get new ones. Bill is jealous; he wants new buffers too! Bill's buffer bother affects his work. Before long, Bill bust his buffers too. Meanwhile, Toby raises the red flag when the farmer's lambs are stranded on a snowy hillside. When Duck can't get through with his snowplow, Toby goes on his old branch line to save the day.

Thomas is squeaky clean for his very important passenger. But when famous singer Alicia Botti sees a mouse, she refuses to ride with him. Percy is proud to take her to the concert, even though he's a little dirty. Gordon boasts of being the fastest engine. Thomas wishes he could be fast like Gordon. When Thomas gets a jet engine as a special, he ends up rocketing over the rails.

The big engines think Edward is too old to be a back engine and should retire. Sir Topham Hatt disagrees, and sets up a plan. When Gordon gets stuck on a hill, Edward is very useful indeed. Duncan is impatient with Rusty, Rheneas, and Skarloey. He ignores the rules and puts too many freight cars on the incline. When his chain tangles on the coupling of the slate car, it's dunkin Duncan!

Rusty was given two weeks to clear Rheneas and Skarloey's line before Sir Topham Hatt shut it down. With help from his friends and a clever idea, Rusty saves the day! Duncan set off to prove how great a whistle he had. He whistled louder and longer every chance he got. When his whistle flew off and couldn't be found, the headmaster had a replacement for Duncan's faulty whistle - his new organ!
