The King who had abdicated the throne as Edward VIII in 1936 was created Duke of Windsor a year later. As if his love life had not created enough constitutional problems, the Duke's well-known Nazi sympathies were an additional problem for British government at a time when the spectre of war loomed large over Europe.

Suddenly, a guard sees Goering put his hand to his mouth, after which he quickly begins to choke. A medic rushes into the cell, but it's too late, Goering has taken his own life and cheated the hangman.

Once a leading light in the Nazi party and the loyal deputy of Adolf Hitler, Rudolf Hess' extraordinary story begins with his solo flight to Scotland in 1941, which was seemingly made to try and secure a peace agreement with the Allies. Hess parachuted from his Messerschmitt and was arrested by a farmer wielding a pitchfork.
