After another heartbreak, free-spirited Nikuko and her fifth grader, Kikuko, find refuge in a seaside town, working at a struggling yakiniku shop. Kikuko cringes at her mother’s loud Osaka ways, yet slowly falls for the town’s charm, especially the quirky boy Ninomiya.
