Serial killer Max Rapp has finally confessed to 23 brutal murders. But Detective Tara Scholl discovers evidence that he has an alibi for at least three of the acts. Then a new body appears.

Rapp has escaped and Tara is placed on leave due to her mistakes, leaving her lover and colleague Henry to man the investigation. But she knows where Rapp is, and is determined to continue the case.

Now with Rapp’s help, Tara and Henry begin to attempt to solve one of the crimes with which Rapp was charged. They now must race against time before another murder is committed.

The team move onto the next potentially unsolved crime, but Rapp’s demands in exchange for his help are becoming more and more excessive. Then his personal guard is found dead --is Tara in danger?

Rapp has revoked his confession to another murder, with Dr. Bohn now under suspicion again. Rapp is proving to be extremely useful in the investigations, but Henry still doesn’t trust him.
