Pub landlord Tony badly burnt his legs when his barbecue gas cylinder exploded. He was only wearing his boxer shorts at the time and is in a lot of pain -he needs morphine as nurse practitioner Shabana cleans his wounds. Emma, Tony's partner of five years, is with him and tries to cheer him up. "That's gonnabe your new name now:'BBQ Legs!'," she teases.

3-year-old Billy is brought to A&E by his parentswith swollen eyes after accidentally squirtingwashing detergent in them.Billy also hasa life-threatening kidney disorder, nephrotic syndrome, which lowers his immune system and makes him more prone to infections -he's been hospitalised five times in the last yearalone.

66-year-old Gerald is rushed toSt George's by air ambulance after falling ten feet from his loft, through his bannisters and then down two flights of stairs. He has a serious head wound and medics are concerned he could have suffered neck and spinal injuries.

61-year-old Erin is rushed to St George's after she collapsed at homeand suffering with a severe ear infection. The conditioncan spread to the brain and,in the most severe cases, can even kill people.

"Some people, they go out and have far too much to drink... get into fights...and do somebody some pretty significant damage. It's very difficult to understand how there are people in society like that," says St George's A&E clinical director Phil. "But that's why we're always here. We're open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.We're not going anywhere.

13-year-old cyclist Sam is rushed to A&E after coming off her bike at high speed during a race, landing on her head.She's complaining of pain down her spine and has been vomiting and in and out of consciousness since the accident

The series opener features people suffering misfortune while doing what they love on a perfect summer's day. The programme includes a first for the series, heart-stopping helmet cam footage of a motorbike accident that sees a father and son rushed to St George's.

68-year-old professional actor Dudley has come to A&E after injuring his shoulder in a fallwhile rushing to catch a train. "It was agony, the worst pain I've ever had in my life,"says Dudley, who also admits. "I'd be a liar if I said I'd never been accused of being a drama queen."

62-year-old Cora arrives by air ambulance after being a passenger in a high speed road traffic collision where she was trapped in the car for over an hour. Cora is sent for a CT scan to assess her injuries as doctors suspect she has multiple fractures

40-year-old betting shop owner Les is rushed to St George's after losing control of his Land Rover on a country road on his way to work. Les has lacerations on his head, which will needto be treatedwith emergency surgery, but also leadthe medical team to worry about underlying head or neck injuries.

63-year-old Zaki recently underwent a tonsillectomy after being diagnosed with throat cancer. But he's come to A&E after suffering a bad bleed at home, He's transferred to resusso that doctors can get his bleeding under control.

50-year-old Nikki and her 68-year-old mother Angela have been involved in a serious car crash. Passers by dragged both women from the car, which rolled over twice, due to fears it could explode.

59-year-old Becky is rushed to St George's after a suspected stroke. "As soon as the bleep goes off I know that the clock is ticking. Every minute that a stroke goes untreated, the less likely somebody is to have a good outcome," says stroke registrar Helen.

Nine-year-old Robert is in A&E with his dad, Marcus. He has a heart problem and today he has a dangerously high heart rate -it's been up to almost 200 bpm for nearly an hour.
