Mary's fuming because her sister Renata has endowed a new wing for Pendleton's museum. Mary tells Dick that Renata's always been the "pretty sister," the "smart sister," the "successful sister" and she takes every opportunity to cram it down Mary's throat.

Tommy, in an attempt to reconcile with Alissa, goes to her house with the feeble excuse that she still has the beer tap that they rented for the senior party and it needs to be returned.

High school's over for Tommy, so he decides it's time to follow Jack Kerouac's lead and hit the road. Dick and Mary go to the movies with Sally and Don and then go to dinner. While discussing the sexy movie they've just seen, Dick and Sally begin to rave about how wonderful their respective partners are in bed.

A very bored Dick, Sally and Harry step through a portal to another dimension and immediately find themselves in a chic Manhattan loft. It's soon revealed that Dick's a high-power attorney, Sally writes a racy newspaper column about sex, Tommy's a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" and Harry is president of a television network.

Since the last episode, the aliens are in a parallel universe in New York. Dick, unhappy in his career as a high-powered attorney, walks into a dive on 48th Street and finds the love of his life. Tommy is a big success on "Saturday Night Live," while Harry is a network executive. And Sally is sleeping with the mayor.

Tommy can't decide where to go to college, and Dick is really pushing Pendleton. Dick says when it's all said and done, Princeton and Pendleton both serve fish sticks.

The aliens give Tommy a big send-off to college that includes two cases of beer and a fake ID. But as he's leaving, Sally and Harry get ready to interview his replacement.

After attending a football game and observing how enthusiastically the crowd sang "The Star-Spangled Banner," Dick observes that humans have a deep love for their country of origin. To get with the program and to look inconspicuous, he assigns the aliens a handful of research tasks on America.

When Mary invites Dick to accompany her on an archeological dig, he eagerly accepts; he's seen "Raiders of the Lost Ark," so he knows how exciting and dangerous archeology can be.

Dick, Mary, Harry and Sally walk in the park. A magician entertains children at a nearby party. When the magician asks for an assistant, Dick volunteers and he's immediately swept away by the attention and applause.

Dick and Mary visit Rita, a psychic. Dick scoffs that the whole thing's a rip-off until the psychic says that Dick and Mary are from two different worlds.

When Mary tells Dick that she wants some time apart from him, he thinks it's all over between them until Nina explains that taking time apart is what healthy couples do.

When Nina quizzes Dick about Mary's likes and dislikes, it becomes clear that Nina knows virtually everything about her while Dick knows nothing.

Harry and Sally fool around with the time-space portal located in the closet even though Dick has warned them not to do it. Later, Dick opens the closet door and out steps an alien from the home planet.

Dick hears a pitch for a $10,000 timeshare and he immediately obsesses over owning his own little piece of Earth.

Dick, Nina and Mary are at a book-signing for "A Road Map to Permanent Happiness." As they're standing in line, Dick scoffs and makes fun of the people who believe this foolishness. But when he leafs through the book, he's converted in a matter of seconds.

Dick is poking around in Mary's dresser and discovers some love letters signed "Scoochie." Dick reads the letters to Harry and Sally, and they all agree that they're brilliant.

Liam Neesam, a man from Mary's past, confesses to the "Scoochie" letters. Mary can't believe that he has been writing them for the past three years. Dick tells the other aliens that he has to fight back to keep Liam from stealing Mary.

Dick informs the other aliens that Mary saw him turn Neesam into a chimp. After a brief discussion, it's agreed upon that denial is the best method of damage control.

The aliens are trying to process the fact that their mission has been cancelled. They're involved in too many things to leave Earth right now - and how will they say goodbye? Harry suggests that, since they have to leave Saturday night, maybe they should throw a party. Elvis Costello guest stars.
