In 1984, in a rural area of New Zealand, Boy, an 11-year-old Maori boy and Michael Jackson fan, dreams of the heroic figure of his absent father. When he returns after years in prison, Boy hopes to build a relationship with him. However, he soon discovers that his father is only looking to recover some buried money, forcing him to face reality and leave his illusions behind.
