Behind the decadence of 1929 Berlin, lies an underworld city of sin. Police investigator Gereon Rath has been transferred from Cologne to solve a criminal case - a porn ring run by the Berlin Mafia. He uncovers a dangerous web of shadows.

Rath attempts to interrogate König further regarding the missing film reel, while the Russian revolutionaries' location is revealed by an informant.

Kardakow flees after the Soviet attack on The Red Fortress. While attempting to steal a vagrant's coat, he is seriously injured with a knife and is pursued by the "Schupo." Rath receives an uninvited guest in his apartment.

Boris Wolkow's body is floating lifelessly in the Landwehrkanal. Rath and Wolter have been assigned to prevent a demo at the Kottbusser Tor. However, the police are in for another surprise as they are sent to search for arms in the communists' homes.

When Kardakow wakes up in Svetlana's bed, he sees Fallin and Selinsky approaching the house. He wants to warn his girlfriend, but, disguised as Lukasz Nikoros, she opens the door for the men. Kardakow instantly realizes that she has betrayed him...

The journalist Katelbach wakes up Rath with the request to supply him with details about the injured police officer Dörr. What he fails to notice is that the landlady Elisabeth Behnke is hiding under Rath's bedsheets, having spent the night with him.

With a forged press ID card, Charlotte gains entrance to the locomotive depot. There, a customs official confirms that gas has leaked out of the tank, and poisoned his colleagues. Meanwhile, the Soviet Secret Service is observing the hijacked train.

Rath and Bruno finally get a lead to the location of the missing film reel but after the truth come the consequences.
