Bergerac

After three years of going dry, it looks like Jim Bergerac is hitting the bottle again. His situation is not helped when he claims to have seen a murder he cannot substantiate. Obviously it was a figment of his drunken imagination. Suspended from duty and under suspicion, Bergerac determines to find out who did this to him.

The arrival of Terri Fuller and Liz Phillips causes sudden consternation in a number of circles. For Jim Bergerac it means cancelling his leave and disappointing his ex-wife so that he can keep an eye on them. It is only when a gunman arrives on Jersey that Charlie realizes that Jim's involvement is a matter of life and death.

On a camping holiday in France, Tony Morel is arrested for the brutal murder of his wife, Janet. As a foreign national, however, he is quickly released through lack of real evidence. Dupont, the French detective involved in the case, is convinced that Tony is the murderer and enlists the help of Jim Bergerac to investigate the couple's background.

The notorious jewel thief Philippa Vale, known as the Ice Maiden, arrives on Jersey. She claims she is here for a holiday, but it is too much of a coincidence - a large diamond is about to be privately auctioned.

A European professional boxing championship is to take place on Jersey. The champion, Jacques Laronde, and the challenger, Eddie McCord, both set up training camps on the island. From the outset things go badly wrong for McCord, who is plagued by an escalating series of mishaps. It looks as though someone may be behind them and Bergerac is called in to investigate.

Charlie Hungerford and a syndicate of Jersey businessmen have ambitious plans to build a leisure complex on the island. The capital costs are so huge that they need additional outside finance. Through a Saudi diplomat, Charlie gets in touch with Zaki Mansoor, a charming entrepreneur whose wealth and contacts are just what the syndicate needs, however Bergerac's suspicions are aroused.

Retired international rock star Boy Buckley is a trend-setter on Jersey, particularly among the 'six-gin valley' crowd. When he throws a party on his newly acquired motor yacht, two of his guests fall overboard. Despite statements to the contrary from all the party-goers, Bergerac is convinced that a murder has been committed.

Paul and Harry are two small-time London thieves responsible for a mini crime wave in Jersey. Bergerac is aware the thieves must be receiving tip offs, but his only course is to wait until someone makes a mistake. When Angela Marshall does, it is Charlie Hungerford who spots it. But he is reluctant to draw attention to the fact that he keeps shady company.

Jack Broughton is out on parole, bringing his young son to Jersey - without telling his parole officer or Pam, his ex-wife and Geoff's legal guardian. Bergerac is given the task of finding and arresting Broughton on what seems a minor technicality. As the investigation proceeds, however, it becomes clear that Broughton has more than one reason for coming to Jersey.

When international financier Sir Gervase Ewell sets up a meeting of European money men in his Jersey mansion, the security arrangements are extremely tight. The meeting's uninvited guests are more than ruthless, but one of them is attending the meeting for reasons other than financial gain.
