Peace has seemingly returned to both the World of the Living and the Soul Society with Aizen's defeat. But reports of Soul Reapers going missing after entering the Precipice World begin to surface in the Soul Society. Meanwhile in the World of the Living, Kon finds an unconscious girl lying in the street and brings her home to care for, while Ichigo and Rukia discover that they are unable to contact the Soul Society.

Ichigo is placed under arrest by the Soul Society under suspicion of being responsible for the disappearance of the Soul Reapers in the Precipice World. With Rukia's help, the two make an escape, when Renji and Ikkaku appear to do battle.

Ichigo and Rukia find stored records on Nozomi at the Department of Research and Development, and realize the World of the Living is in danger. Hurrying to get back, the two regroup with Yoruichi, who proposes to get past the heavily guarded Senkaimon by force. Meanwhile in the World of the Living, Kon and Nozomi find themselves attacked by Kira, Nanao, and a Soul Reaper calling himself Kageroza.

The 13 Court Guard Squads who attacked Ichigo and Rukia in the Soul Society are revealed to be imposters known as Reigai, who have switched places with their originals. Thanks to the work of Mayuri, the real captains and lieutenants are rescued from the Precipice World, and they all regroup in the World of the Living to discuss how to deal with this new crisis. Meanwhile, to help Nozomi feel welcomed, Ichigo and the others decide to host a barbecue party, when Nozomi suddenly runs off.

Kon goes out to search for Nozomi and finds her wandering aimlessly. Meanwhile, the Soul Society has assembled a special team, including the Reigai of Ikkaku, Yumichika, and Hisagi, to apprehend Ichigo. The Reigai arrive in the World of the Living where they encounter their originals, and a battle ensues!

Rangiku faces the Reigai of Izuru, but the imposter's Zanpakuto proves to be more powerful then she anticipated. Rukia is also having a tough battle against the Reigai of herself and Nemu, when help arrives from an unexpected person. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, Ukitake pleads for Kyoraku's release to Central 46.

Chad encounters Renji's Reigai while searching for Nozomi, and a battle ensues between the two. Meanwhile, Unohana grows suspicious over the events surrounding Kyoraku's arrest, and begins to conduct her own research. In the process, Unohana learns that Kageroza is the mastermind behind this incident.

The captains of the 13 Court Guard Squads take action to reclaim the Soul Society back from the Reigai. As they successfully reenter the Soul Society, Kenpachi encounters his Reigai, and a fierce battle ensues. Meanwhile, Genryusai battles the Reigai of Kyoraku and Ukitake but notices something odd about their movements.

Moved by Ichigo and his friends' efforts to protect her, Nozomi decides to stay with the group and begins to use her powers to heal Ichigo. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, Byakuya faces the Reigai of Hitsugaya.

Ichigo leaves for the Soul Society to join the battle, only to be ambushed by Kageroza, who intends to erase Ichigo's existence. Back in the Soul Society, the wounded captains find themselves facing new Reigais to battle, while Hitsugaya is reunited with Hinamori.

Captains of the 13 Court Guard Squads continue their battle to reclaim the Soul Society. Head Captain Yamamoto takes on the Reigai of Kyoraku and Ukitake, but is gradually overwhelmed by the two. Meanwhile in the World of the Living, Nozomi and the others learn of Ichigo's disappearance inside the Precipice World.

Captains Hitsugaya and Kenpachi have located Kageroza and proceed to attack him, but Kageroza retaliates by controlling the Precipice World to his advantage. Back in the World of the Living, Nozomi and the others continue their search for the missing Ichigo.

Ichigo, who was swept away by the Cleaner inside the Precipice World, has safely returned to the World of the Living to everyone's delight. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, the Reigai are revealed to be Mod Souls created by Kageroza.
