Several shots have been fired at uniform police in Mt Thomas. They suspect the shooter is a man wanting revenge for the death of his son after being arrested and sent to prison.Tom meets and old friend from church after he is found shoplifting. He discovers that the man's daughter is dying from leukemia. Tom is also not well, but refuses to admit it and see a doctor

It is obvious to everyone at the station that the Boss is struggling with his health. Despite concerns from others and Amy's persistence to get Tom to a doctor, he remains stubborn and in denial. Tom is forced to deal with past emotions when a young boy turns up on his doorstep wanting his help and guidance.

Responding to a reported fire in the National Park, Jonesy and Alex find a baby's remains in a firepit. Their investigation leads to a young girl and her involvement in a farm run by a cult. Alex struggles to connect with his son but his dismissal of Rory's claims of feeling sick lands Rory in hospital.

Tom's mysterious disappearance from Mt Thomas sees Inspector Falcon-Price happily take over the station. As Amy investigates a brutal assault and home invasion. The Inspector gets on Amy's nerves as he continually hinders her attempts to solve the case.

Joss gets the gambling bug when he and Kelly apprehend a pickpocket and a grateful punter gives him a winning tip

Alex is left fighting for his life in hospital. Falcon-Price seizes his chance to prove Tom isn't fit for duty.

Kelly finds herself drawn to attractive young lawyer, David Murray, but is furious when he defeats her in court, allowing an accused arsonist to walk free. Joss receives a surprise visit from his mother, who is concerned about all the money he has been splashing around.

A beaten up Joss finds himself homeless after losing most of his money to gambling. Kelly helps out a lawyer who she just happens to be dating. Rory has a crush on Susie, or maybe its susie who has the crush.

To pay off his gambling debts, Joss takes a night job driving a cab. His first big fare is a charismatic high roller who offers Joss a fast and illegal way to make money.

Senior Sergeant Tom Croydon knows he should be looking after his own health and renewing ties with his estranged family. But he's distracted when disgraced former Constable Adam Cooper returns to town and makes serious criminal accusations against him.
