Chris Tarrant: Extreme Railways

In this monster themed episode, Chris heads to Transylvania to seek out the truth behind the story of Dracula and find out how well the region's railway networks, meticulously described in Bram Stoker's 1897 classic, have survived. Chris follows the route of the fictional Jonathon Harker deep into Transylvania to the location of the supposedly fictional Dracula's castle.

Chris heads to the crossroads of the world in search of a legendary long distance railway that played a crucial role in Turkey's history. He travels from one of the busiest, most famous cities in the world, Istanbul, to one of the most remote and desolate, Kars, near the Armenian border.

Chris is in one of his favourite places, Ireland. He's on a mission to visit all four corners of the Emerald Isle in just six days on an ageing network than has seen better days. Largely built during British colonial rule, this is one of the oldest networks in the world. These railways have played their part in over a hundred years of troubled Irish history.

Chris arrives in Mombasa on the trail of what was surely the greatest, maddest railway endeavor of the entire colonial era, the building of the so-called Lunatic Line. In this episode he attempts to follow the now crumbling line right across Kenya to the shores of Lake Victoria.
